I'd also like to add that most of us think we're not going to get hooked either in the beginning. (Mine was not heroin, but it's all the same in the end.) I had the exact same mindset about addiction that you see a lot on here.

I thought they were weak, that they were just trashy people, that I was better than them and I could handle things where they couldn't. I was wrong. So fricking wrong. And so arrogant and full of shite. I thought I was so smart and educated and over the years I've been taught a lot and called out on a lot of my bullshite by the same people I dismissed as trashy addicts not that many years ago.
