I believe every bit of it. Back in 2003 one of my good buddies was very close to Joel and was one of his “12 apostles”. He told me Joel “hated fat people” and was very judgmental of people, which I thought was strange for a religious leader. Joel was also incredibly materialistic. About 20 years ago I was waiting in the ticket counter area of the Baton Rouge airport , outside maybe 4-5 black SUVs rolled up, and guys in suits started getting out. People around me started pointing and mumbling, I thought it must be the governor or some “official”, but in walked this goofy looking kid with ears like dumbo followed by around 6 guys each carrying two suit bags. They checked all the suit bags, and all but “Dumbo” and one other guy returned to the SUVs. Later found out who the kid was, and all the background on the family church operation.
