i want to put a floor plan together for a renovation. then i want to see how the roof line will work out.

Use sketchup make that (I was unaware of the "make" version and) was linked on the last page. It will give you an idea of what will work as well as any other basic layout program. If you want detail to make certain it will work you'll have to spend some money if you want to do it legally, there are cracks for just about every program you could imagine if that isn't a concern of yours. I've done mine in Revit but that's because I have free access to it through work.

well, that's what i want to lay out the exterior walls then the load bearing walls so i can see what i can move around and/or where i'll have to install structural beams.
