My weekend trip to LA taught me Louisiana ain't that bad.
Yeah, LA is trash.
But that doesn’t mean the Louisiana is nice. It’s like gonerreah isn’t that bad because you get AIDS.

To hear most of you type, you make it sounds like a smaller version of Chicago.
A winter in Chicago would have most of the OT begging to return to Baton Rouge. You can drink the air but at least you can’t feel the scratchy tingle of ice in your eye lids.

You could have said that in the 80s, but not now.

Baton Rouge is devoid of history and culture
Not hardly. It has some of the most Civil War history that the state possesses. And then with it being the state capital for most of the state's history, it also can boast all the characters that came through the governor's mansion. Biography and non-fiction is most of what I read. Hard to read any book on Louisiana history and not have some tie to Baton Rouge.

I don’t think anyone can credibly say this about any old river town along the Mississippi. Especially not Baton Rouge.

I lived in BR 2001-2008 and Tigerland wasn't bad until Katrina and the Geaux Zone started the trend of huge mega apartment complexes, which left a huge void in TL and Sharlo. This led to the area to just be lazy and go the Section 8 route instead of investing in the area. TL and Sharlo were typical college living areas until then. By 2008 it was sketchy and has only gotten worse.

Show me the perfect city and I'll show you an insane localized housing market.
Baton Rouge is much better than people give it credit for, but like all of Louisiana...it needs to improve its issues with public education. And the nationwide spike in violent crime is also not leaving Baton Rouge untouched. The Baton Rouge suburbs (particularly Ascension and Livingston, but also West Baton Rouge) need to invest in themselves a little bit. Start widening local roads, improve zoning and building restrictions, invest in flood control, build some parks, improve schools, etc.

We’ve been hearing this for over 40 years. Show me a sign or trajectory of improvement.

Very tough hill to climb when your state and local government is inept and incapable of doing anything the right way.
