I'm looking to turn my manual gate into an automatic gate. Probably leaning towards solar.

How does the brand Liftmaster compare on the market? I have it for my garage door opener and haven't had any issues -- assuming they build a quality opener for a gate as well?

Installed estimated cost for single swing gate mounted to a steel post?

Prefer solar with a battery back-up, if option is available.

lot of variables there, what kind of gate, size, etc., LiftMaster doesn't make the gate, that would be sort of you shopping for what you'd prefer

if you're in south La you could draw up what you'd like and probably get it done nicely and reasonably at a welding shop, what with all of the oilfield welding baws down there

Yep, Liftmaster. We have it on three different gates. Only issue we had is the remote not working for the main gate into one neighborhood. Had it replaced and still didn't work. HOA said they got a bad batch and ordered more. It's working just fine now.

Gate is already installed. Wrought iron. Single swing. Steel posts enclosed.

Approximately 14 ft. wide.

that's different, I just bought two openers for garage doors for $175 each but I have a contractor's license and a tax ID #, I have a friend that buys the same opener and charges just under a grand to install them, so there's some wiggle room, if you're kind of handy with tools you could install it yourself, where are you located?

ETA: if you don't want the hassle I'd shop around with overhead door companies, or if you know someone with a tax ID you could get them to buy it for you and hire a carpenter/handyman to install it

I'm definitely not handy. I've called two companies and both have recommended Liftmaster for residential. I'm all for someone making an honest wage and profit --- but am curious if I can find the Liftmaster LA400 for less online --- although warranty and service issues would be on me ...

might be the simplest to go with a local installer then, Liftmaster will have a longer warranty on the operator than the installer will warranty their labor, shop around though, those guys have a tight margin and are usually hungry, I wouldn't think it'll will be anything exorbitant though
