It's the dregs of society now. When I was in school it was a smorgasbord of gorgeous sorority women from UT and SWT. Now it's a bunch of thugs and scallywags. My biggest piece of advice for people visiting Austin is to stay away from E 6th and go to Rainey Street instead. 6th Street's time has past.

same here. I college I thought it was great.
Went a couple years ago to take my little sister who is 10 years younger. Was blown away by the change in scenery.

I met my wife on 6th back in the day, so I speak with authority when I say it has fallen off the map and no one without a criminal record should go there now.
The city has SO much more to offer in terms of good times to waste a night on 6th among Fort Hood flat-billers street-fighting illegal immigrants.
