Austin is about 45% as cool as it's made out to be

6th St is a tourist trap. It's a smaller, cleaner, Bourbon street w/ no open containers allowed. You should check it out, but there are better areas, like East 6th (east of I35), Rainey St, South Congress (also a tad touristy), and Red River (North of 6th St.).
Lots of people like Eddie V's for a steakhouse. Lamberts is also very good if you are looking for a nice place to eat. It's upscale BBQ, and damn good.
Other places to hit up:
Torchy's Tacos
Hopdoddy (burger bar)
East Side Kings
John Mueller Meat Co (BBQ)
Easy Tiger (bar on 6th)
Gus's Fried Chicken
Chilantro (Mexican Korean BBQ fusion food truck)
NXNW
Black Star Co-op (good beer and food). You can take the train from Downtown to Crestview station and it is right there.
Draught House - Awesome neighborhood Irish pub with a nice beer garden. It's a cool place where locals hang out.
Things to do:
Barton Springs Pool (if during warmer months)
Disc Golf at Zilker Park
Top Golf
Go to a brewery. Austin has tons. There are 4 pretty close to each other in North Central Austin - Adelberts, Circle, Austin Beerworks, 4th Tap. East 6th also has Hops & Grain and Zilker brewing.
Go hiking on the Greenbelt. Should be nice this time of year, especially with the rain Austin's been getting.

Vegas is out of the question unfortunately. Looking forward to Austin. Thanks for the input

Just go to Lafayette, it's the new Austin.
But for real, XTC.

But his name is "Joe Cool" so it will instantly be cooler when he gets there.

Are you taking me on my bachelor party?

This is why Austin sucks now. You douche bags have turned it into what New Orleans used to be. Go there to party, trash the place, then go home.
That coupled with all the California libtards, Austin freaking sucks now and is only a shell of what it was just 10 years ago.
Want to do something worthwhile, go to the state cemetery and go see where Chris Kyle is buried. Go honor a real man and hope some of it rubs off on you.

Maybe you should take a chill pill.

Why? I am chill.
I post this in all of these threads because it comes up every 2 or 3 weeks.

The biggest problem is all the developers knocking down the old Austin and building Dallas style crap. I predict Rainey Street will be all condo towers in a few years.
