If real burglars are anything like the ADT burglar, we have nothing to fear.

Not to scare anyone, but Dennis Rader, Wichita's infamous "BTK" serial killer, once worked as an installation tech for ADT. I believe he actually murdered one or two of the women for whom he had installed the security devices.

Don't tell this to all the old farts. They'll tell you how things were in the good old days and how this country is going to hell in a handbasket

You know, they walked to school barefoot in the snow uphill both ways.

Which means they either lived on an endless slope with endless houses and endless schools (and nary a cobbler between), or they lived on some weird see saw with their house in the middle and schools on both ends.

People wanting to be staunch toward and berate any kind of change because they think their generation's ways are ultimately the best.

FWIW, you are in my top 10
Funniest posters category. At least you exhibit some wit and comedic awareness. Better than most.

You mean old people being scared? It's been like this for millenia. They lament what is happening in the present and wish for the past. I think it has to do with our innate fear of death. Same as a lot of religion.

I think the mechanism that drives it is that we remember all the good from the past and downplay or forget all the bad. You can easily observe this when thinking about things like music, movies, and other various entertainment.

Well this is depressing. I don't want to live that long, too many stupid people.
