I'm all for it given the person is of sound mind to make that decision. Who are we to tell someone that they are "not allowed" to off themselves.

We don't walk in their shoes. You do you.

I think Kavorkian was on to something. A terminal illness. The person with illness had to make the decision and execute the plan.

Side note the movie with Al Pacino was a good watch. You don't know Jack

Because children are your responsibility, maybe I should say young children. You suck it up as long as you can

There's a point of diminishing returns. My dad passed away from multiple myeloma. During the latter stages he was oblivious to what was going on around him due to the massive amount of painkillers they had him on.

If you're able to function, and work, great. If you're bedridden and sucking up money, you aren't doing your young children any favors by hanging around for 3 years forcing in many cases them to assist in your care, and draining away things like college funds, and basic necessities.

Better to just move on and leave them with a trusted family member, or worst case a friend willing to take the burden along with a trust fund in whatever funds you've saved for your retirement. The kids will be better off in the long run.

Yes, yes and yes. Go and ask any hospice nurse how much pain and suffering those patients are in at the very end. If you are of sound mind and know that there is no cure you should be able to choose. This may even cut down on suicides which would help the families with the grieving process when they know the patient chose that decision and the patient could explain their choices. People would also be able to say goodbye which goes a long way in the healing and grieving process.
