DNA retrieval and reconstruction is advancing rapidly. Scientists from the Max Planck Institute have mapped the entire genome of Neandertals and Denisovans, for example. I'm sure they'll be able to reconstruct the DNA of Mammoths from the excellent samples collected in Siberia, too. It's just a matter of time, funding and will.
