Are online for-profit ‘colleges’ devaluing the MBA?

My company (large healthcare insurer) is partering with an online university to offer qualifying employees the opportunity to earn an MBA with a healthcare related focus for free.

I see these online MBA offerings everywhere - and would never pay out of pocket for one of their degrees - but I’m wondering if this would be worth my time.

Your thoughts?

No more than traditional college is devaluing the undergraduate diploma.

So, yes.

Do you have any desire to move up in your company?

You're asking if a free MBA education at a bottom of the barrel university is better than no MBA at all?

Take the free education. It cannot hurt you.

Academia is broken. The cost, the political lunacy, and expensive degrees that don’t translate to careers are becoming a mountain of BS.

I welcome absolutely anything that brings more scrutiny to college, as it is today.

I'd assume he's asking if it would even be worth the time (at least several hours a week for a year or two, I'd assume) to get it.

Valid question IMO. He may have better things to do with his free time.

I've had several opportunities to get some free continuing ed, but haven't bothered because I knew the input would outweigh the outcome.

No more than universities admitting students who scored a 16 on an ACT. Hell even 18 is too low

I’ve found the MBA to be overrated in general, especially if you have a business major for your undergrad.

A directional state school MBA isn’t exactly prestigious

I’ll take my MS in agribusiness though

Will your company offer a raise after you get your MBA? Even if they don't, it would probably be worth your time just for your resume.

Every school deserves the right to take money from any student, no matter how dumb.

Err, I mean....

Every student deserves the chance for a college degree.

What do you mean by "for-profit"? Because I don't think a "large healthcare insurer" would partner with the type of institution that that name illicits.

IMO no. An MBA from a good program isnt worth less because of the rise in online and for profit MBAs

I would think a large health insurer would want to partner with a school that offers an MHA, instead of just telling you your for-profit MBA has a healthcare "focus"

only for employers who don't know. Employers that are in tune with programs will still value top notch universities over the for profit colleges.

How much blame is on a 17/18 year old student who has been told their whole life that college is the way to success?

The question was MBA here or nothing. Not MBA here or MBA from Harvard.

Traditional colleges have been doing online MBA's for a while.

An MBA is now worthless. Basically you pay money, spend a little time and presto chango you have an MBA. It's a joke.

And thanks to SJW's a traditional brick & mortar degree loses more value every day.

No blame on the kid who's been told this is the goal all along. They don't know any better yet.
