Watch a video on modern cremations, it's a crapshoot that you're even getting the ashes of your loved one. Best case scenario if the cremator is as careful and respectful as can be you're probably getting 60% your loved one, 25% the guy getting cremated in the other chamber, and the rest a mix of random people that didn't get swept up yet and the ashes of whatever wood/cardboard they shoved you in to roast you.
this is the truth.
funerals are a waste of money but until people see the dead; I don't think there is closure.

That's bullshite! I own 3 funeral homes and the crematory is/has to be cleaned and spotless before the next body goes in. Any reputable funeral home is going to do things the right way. Their reputation depends on it. Burials are a money maker (mostly due to the markup on caskets) but trust me when I say that the profit margin is much better when one chooses to be put in the incinerator. Also , close to 80% of our customers go with casket and burial. I have never seen a "glass wall with chairs" for people to watch a body burn either. Most preachers we use or who the family chooses do the service for little to nothing if not for free. We do a lot of funerals at Florida National Cemetary and those are awesome! For the family , the deceased , and it's an honor for anyone else helping to provide the service.

The Priest always gets a couple three hundreds in an envelope and more money to pay for the future Masses said for you.
I just went to two, 100% Ukrainian Funerals and the casket was in the aisle like a Catholic Mass but the coffin was open. I really found more closure this way.

You do realize it was all over the news that Funeral Parlors were doing this and worse. So it in embedded in everyones head that this could happen. And the plexiglass and chairs are in a funeral home in up North, in the basement down- side stairs by the oven (crematorium) I just thought they did this so people that wanted to: could watch and make sure the ashes were their loved ones. I can provide you a link of the funeral home I was there, I saw it in living color.
The mark-ups on the coffins are how you butter your bread but they are ridiculous.
I really appreciated mints everywhere being an immediate family in a funeral home. They help anxiety of this nature and keep fresh breath for greeting a gazillion people you have to fake hug like you have known them forever.

Yes. Scruffy has posted about this before. Two of the biggest wastes of prime real estate are golf courses and graveyards.
And Section 8 housing

I'm not saying that there are not shite people out there who run/own shite funeral homes. I'm saying that there are plenty of people on the business who are truely in it to provide a service to families and respect the process from removal to burial. We don't cut corners. We do A LOT of free work. We try to help people that are unprepared. We do things the right way and by the books. No matter the type of business, there are always shite people and shite establishments. I'm saying I know many and I know they are doing things with respect in mind. We help poor people to famous people and they all get the same treatment no matter how much we "make" or how much we "give away". There are respectful people in the business and I'd like to think (and as far as I've seen) that most are. We started up north (NY) as that's where we are from but we are here now because its where you need to be in this business.

I won't say they are wasteful. There's plenty of fricking space. But they are silly. To me of course. Whatever your family wants to do with your bag of guts it's their business.

Who really cares? The dead sure as hell don't. The family is satisfied with some dirt that no longer has any DNA in it.

Is it true that if a man dies with a boner okay forget it I can't finish the sentence.

Should we just cremate everybody? Seems like it would take up less usable space.
Wife asked me if I died first did I want her to have me burned up or buried. I told her to surprise me.

First, my body is going to organ donation if there is anything left that is useful. Next, my budget is $12k for the entire process. Next, the $11.4k that is left after the cremation is for a party. I even instructed my wife that only $40 can be spent on the urn (something from Home Depot/Lowes).

tip =\= charge
As I was saying , I know of no priest who charges for a funeral
Eta: saying a catholic priest charges for funerals is just plain ignorant. If a priest ever tries to charge you for a funeral , please call the bishop's office ASAP and let his office know

In Louisiana you cannot do this. A concrete or steel vault is required. Maybe no casket, I'm not sure but you still are inside a vault.
This is not true. There is no Louisiana law requiring a vault (or casket for that matter) but some cemeteries do require some sort of outer burial receptacle (vault).

LA has a lot of laws protecting the funeral business,
so it wouldn't surprise me. I can't remember if the monks that expanded from building caskets for just themselves to anybody who wanted to pay them for one lost their case or not. I think they did though.
My parents just want to be thrown in a garbage bag, labeled as german shepherds and left at a pet crematorium.

quote:Yep but it's not that simple. Death Certificates have to be filed. Insurances contacted with them for proof of death pending payouts. Social Security, Medicare, Ect has to notified before fraud charges get filed. Cars & real estate have to be transferred after the court allows you to have power of attorney in these matters. Final income taxes have to be filed. Maybe Probate.

A death sets a lot in motion that good funeral homes/directors help you get lined out on and take care of for you.
Most people just see the funeral but there is a a lot of other moving pieces getting done before you can rest in peace.

I know that when a coworker of mine lost 3 of her children in a tragic car accident last year.....the funeral home actually donated the caskets. The graveyard they were buried in the plots were also donated by the church that some of the family attended. I thought that was a class act by both that church and funeral home.

How tragic. I imagine the last thing she needed to worry about was that stuff.
