Agreed. Does he actually need it to be a laptop? If not desktop is the way to go, you’ll get a much more powerful machine. And 99% of the time laptops never leave the desk. He may be thinking "I can take it everywhere so I need to go the laptop route" but in all likelihood unless you’re divorced and swapping houses back and forth he’ll never take it anywhere.

Have a Dell laptop that is supposed to be a mid level gaming setup I'm told. I use it for CAD work, not gaming.
Absolutely hate the keyboard being backlit in red. Must be a gamer thing.
Works great otherwise.

He'll probably use it for more than just playing games.
My laptop goes from home to shop and back home every day.

MSi is the shiz for gaming now, they have a few models at Wally World that you can pick up for the cheap that have the customization to blow the pants off any similar Alienware (dell) stuff. I'm typing on one of these right now.
