Because people of African decent have historically been referred to as apes or monkeys in a derogatory sense. It has little to do with our evolutionary lineage, and more to do with saying they are subhuman.

Bmath, the color of someone’s skin, to me, doesn’t mean they are subhuman. That is one of the biggest fallacies around. I believe in human beings, if you are crap, you are crap. If you are not crap, you are not crap. It’s that simple.

Northshore, who gives a flying shite about Rosanne?? I don’t but if there is to be outrage over words, let it be equal. Better yet, how about not getting upset at all?

No shite, but that is why there is outrage. Just because you don’t make that comparison doesn’t make it less wrong. That’s like saying that white people should be able to use the N word endearingly because you aren’t racist. Words have meaning and while often dependent upon context, there are still social morays surrounding how certain terms can be applied.

Bmath, I agree with what was said earlier. It’s surely not my fault some people get upset when compared to apes or apelike creatures when according to some scientists, we evolved from them. I’m no expert but damn! When are we going to quit being upset by words? I bet you can’t even watch Blazing Saddles without cringing.

Then I'll be more clear. I don't care about the entire Roseanne situation, its implications, or anything to do with it. People lose their lobs every day for exercising poor judgment on social media. If I made those exact same tweets I would be fired from my job as well.
