Oh, people out here are all bent out of shape about it. I remember going to school in EBR a couple of times on Memorial Day -- prob about 25 years ago or so. I was pissed because my dad was off work and I was not. Other than that, no one complained.
ETA: Of course I also didnt have to start school on freaking AUGUST 8TH. May 28-August 8 is not much of a summer, imo. But they do get most of a month off for holidays.

This year they were out from December 23 - January 10.

If the student passes and or exceeds baseline score on end if year assessment test in each subject, they were exempt from taking the final. So basically, the dumbasses that didn't pay attention all year had to show up and take finals this week. My student was exempt and therefore doesn't have to go and/or take finals. Summer started Friday for them.

Looking at the people who were sitting out on the street, it didn't surprise me that their idiot son/daughter was probably a failure or frick up kid.
