instead of more money?
Maybe it’s just my boomer way of thinking, but I have never thought it was a good idea to try to convince my company they can do without me as an employee.

Sure, last job I took I told them 2 months off to start or there was no need to talk further. No problem. After a few years it became 6 months off. Now I just work when they ask and I agree, a month or two a year.
It's nice to phase into retirement on your own terms, but I also had more leverage than most.
Who cooks and sacks the french fries when you are gone?

My company gives us unlimited vacation. They're very generous.
If you hire responsible people, they will self-regulate their vacation.

Im the head of the department on this jobsite.

Leave your job and find somewhere with higher pay.
I am satisfied with my current salary, so money is not the issue. I am looking for more time with family now.

I’d be surprised if you weren’t first to go in the case of layoffs if you’re truly at the top of your pay scale.
I am definitely not worried about layoffs since I have experience running several different departments within the company.

Why is your pay capped out?
My rate is determined by the maintenance contract that we work under.
I work for a subcontractor that provides soft craft services to the O&G and petrochemical industries

If the response is “I like my job” you have almost no leverage. I’d be surprised if you weren’t first to go in the case of layoffs if you’re truly at the top of your pay scale.
I'd describe myself as pretty much "topped out" from a pay standpoint. I'll still get COL adjustments, but probably not much else.
I don't have any desire to go into management, which is the only way up. I just don't think I'd enjoy it. The thought of managing people sounds miserable to me.
Good luck firing your most senior staff and replacing them with new hires

I’ve tried and was turned down. Friend of mine did just left a company and he negotiated for ab extra week of PTO starting out than they normally give.
Definitely doesn’t hurt to ask.

When negotiating the initial job offer I did. And got it.
