Dermatologist excised a spot about an inch down from under my chin. All I can say is, Dermatologists should not be doing surgery. The scar is bad.

If I had something under my nose, I would definitely consult a plastics guy. I would NEVER allow a Dermatologist to perform surgery again!!!

My Dad is getting over a bunch of spot removals from his hands and arms, again. He's 85 and grew up 1 of a bunch of kids on a cotton farm. The kids worked the fields while grandpa sat on the porch, so Dad spent like 80% of the daylight hours out in the sun without any such newfangled thang as sunscreen or fancy notions about skin care.

Couple years ago Mom had some removed from her nose. Extensive operation. Dermatological cancer specialist cut the cancer out then a plastics man came in and cut a flap off her cheek, split it, sewed half of it back to cheek and folded other half over sewn to her nose. Barely has a very light small scar now she can easily cover with her makeup.

Took a couple months for her to go out in public and for a week or 10 days we had to blenderize all her food so she could eat. Which BTW, thanks to the OT here there had been some at that time recent posts on blenderizing meals for people with jaw/facial problems so I had good ideas for what works and doesn't in a blender for real food intake.

My SIL and FIL both had parts and pieces removed. My SIL was only 20 when the found a couple spots, one being pretty sizable on her shoulder. She was the cover story for the "hat run" last year because of how young she was when diagnosed in an effort to make young women more aware.

I had something nitro-burned off my nose. Disaster. Nose split open on the weekend. Heres my PSA: i used "new skin" on it. Turrble. Dark. Stuck on. Finally went to md. Now I have a small chunk missing from nose. Took biopsy. Nada. Do not use "new skin" on face. Should have gone to ER for stitches.

I'd recommend a plastic surgeon instead bud Just my .02

The dermatologist who did the biopsy last week referred me to a plastic surgeon who will be doing the procedure. Thanks for the feedback guys.

I think I read somewhere that almost half of people over the age of 45 or 50 have this same skin cancer somewhere on their body and never realize it. Nor is it ever identified by a physician And they end up dying from something else later
