Barges on the river don't go to the port idiot.
The barges are in the fleet and those fleets are no where near uptown.
You're hearing the rail cars.
Barges don't typically hit hard enough to for you to hear. If they do they would be causing some serious damage to the barges. Those barges aren't built strong enough to sustain those types of collisions you think you're hearing.

It was fireworks on the river from Mardi Gras world. Convention in town - opening ceremonies I assume
