Basically Airbnb for vehicles.

Seems cheaper than renting a car.

Anyone know about/use this service?

Just rented a jeep rubicon last week in Denver using Turo. Usually use them if I want a 4wd. There is a lot of Tesla’s on there also.
Never had a problem. It’s a pain to wash it after, just pay the extra $25-30 to not have to. I never get the added insurance

Only once, wasn’t great. I’d give them another shot but my fiancé prefers I don’t.

I needed AWD in Denver so I rented a pretty low mileage 2013/14 VW Tiguan that had great reviews. The morning of our flight, owner calls texts and says the motor blew on the Tiguan so it wasn’t available but he had a 2008 Audi Q7 he’d give me for the same price. Wasn’t keen on that since Audi’s of that year aren’t known for reliability and it was higher mileage but accepted his offer to avoid the headache of sourcing another car. Get to the car, it looks in good shape, got in and the entire center console was dead. No radio, HVAC, or Nav screen but it otherwise drove fine. Called and told him, and I should have demanded a refund and a new car...of course he had no other cars available and offered more of a discount. Weather was more mild than expected so I just soldiered on. The car was fine as far as driving and luckily we didn’t need heat or AC since the weather cooperated but still pretty shitty. In hindsight, I think he pulled a fast one to make sure he booked both vehicles. I think he double booked the Tiguan and or booked it at a higher price and tried to see if he could get me or someone else in the vehicle he had idle for that weekend.

I think for most people Turo is fine, but my one experience was enough to keep me away for now. I also find that for newer reliable vehicles the prices are just as much as a rental from Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, etc.

Does your personal insurance cover damages?

ETA: Thats the part I’m most concerned about. How insurance works with Turo.

Used it for a trip to Napa a few years ago. Rented a $90k BMW x6 for not much more than a standard enterprise rental would have been.

Bigger markets have better deals.
