There were 124 homicides in 2024 in New Orleans. 365,000 live in Nola proper. Odds are 00.033% a random person living in Nola for 1 year is murdered. If you live 100 year in Nola, odds are 3.3% of homicide; as a white, it is lower at 1.9%.
Now if you account for 85% of the homicide victims are black, and 32% of Nola residents are white. So if an average year has 150 homicides and 15% of homicide victims are white, that means around 22 of the victims are white. There are 117,000 white residents in New Orleans proper. Odds are 00.019% a white is murder annually. That's 1.9% chance if you live 100 years in Nola of being murdered. If you live 75 years in Nola, you have a 1.4% of being a homicide victim. I think it'd actually be a method for solving along the lines of (1-.00019)^75 to actually find the odds over 75 years. In this case, it works out to be the same 98.6% chance of not murdered over 75 years if you are white and live in Nola entire time.
Now if you are only there for 3 days, then the odds are, 00.019% x 3/365 = 00.00016% or 1 in 640,000. I'll take 639,999 of 640,000 odds of surviving a 3 day trip as a white in New Orleans.
