Green and Green and A. Town Hayes > Frank Lloyd Wright. From an everyday man's perspective. Frank Lloyd Wright was the architect's architect.

the thing about a flw home is you only get a small appreciation until you actually stay in one. i love craftsman and had a flw knock off from the early 50s in a 40s-50s historic district once. i loved that house.
mid century modern is cool again!

It was still really original with most of the build In furniture. It had an amazing bright red couch along the perimeter of the “main entertainment” room. Probably 30ft by 20ft long that also housed the heating unit. The wall behind it was solid glass. It was an amazing place to sit during the long winters.
The house was built for a lumber Baron whos wife later cheated on him with the Texan horse trainer. The baron then got drunk and road a horse through the house firing his gun.
I hear the owners after us gutted it to make it 90s “modern” After my dad was transferred back down south. Made my parents sick. To this day they wish they had kept it as a vacation home

But Frank Gehry is up there with FLW as an "American Architect" even though FG was born in Canada
I would absolutely piss on Frank Gehry's shoes if I were ever next to him and thought I could get away with it. What a crock of shite.
I guess architecture is supposed to generate a reaction, so I guess he beat me, but I would still piss on his shoes.

Not a fan of modernist architecture. Especially shite like this;
That thing is held up as some awesome bit of design.

Care to share the name of the house? I'd kinda like to dig out my Storrer design book and see what it is.

Sorry, but it would rather not. Would be easy to figure out my family at least with that info.
That said. It was in the area is your school’s state (a few miles from the border).

Understandable. The house's are generally well known as are the ownership history of each.
There are some nice ones in WI, from small to large.
I find the smallest to be one of the coolest.

FLW is pretty cool. I am an architect and I took a history class just on his work.
Taliesin West is awesome.
Never got the Gehry hype, but to each his own.

I have an idea of which one but won't say any more.
The picture is of the Seth Peterson cottage near Wisconsin Dells. Going from memory it was Wright's last commission.

If you're ever in Chicago, you can take the train to Oak Park and tour his home, which is definitely a cool experience.
The neighborhood that the house is located in has some amazing non-Wright homes as well.

The mom of a guy I know used to be the CEO of lane Bryant, and she's a huge woman power type. Because FLW was supposedly a huge misogynist, she bought one of his designed homes on Lake Delavan and gutted it. Stayed there once, it's fricking amazing. Huge house, pool, about 3 guest cottages. A bunch of frontage. I'll see if I can find pics.

My connection to FLLW is my great grandfather battled with him several times over getting some bills paid at the dealership.
He was known for leaving a trail of unpaid bills behind him. In fact, the Seth Peterson cottage has an interesting story that relates to that. The guy had written some letters in an attempt to get his cottage designed but wasn't getting far. So he sent a check for $500 dollars knowing that if Wright cashed it they had a contract.
It worked.

Was next door to my home when I lived in Florence... first wife spent a lot of time there as a child. Beautiful home.
