I've got an Outback with the 4 in flat arse Indiana - it's great. If you're going to tow (I don't) you probably want the 6, but for just driving, the 4 gets on the highway easily, cruises at 80 all day, and passes easily when you need it to.

We have a client who works in the service dept at Subaru. When I told him I liked how the Crosstreks looked he quickly told me not to bother with them. Overall the car is great, but the engine power is greatly lacking. They basically just took an Impreza engine and dumped it in a compact SUV. If anything, go with the Outback or Forester - and get the turbo engine. This fall I will be getting a Forester XT Touring.

Get the bigger engine

I'm not too sure about the Crosstrek. We were looking at a Subaru Outback and a Toyota Highlander for the Mrs.

We ended up opting for the Highlander, but the Subaru was a nice car. I wouldn't be opposed to getting one once my car falls apart.

Close yes, but the Crosstrek is taller and heavier. Engine power is the #1 complaint against it. If they had a turbo version, I'd be all over it.

Have no knowledge on the Crosstrek, but my son lives in WA state, 264K on his first Outback, almost 200K on his 2nd, no problems. Pretty much the only vehicle to own in you live in the Northwest or anywhere else that has snow or wet roads,

I test drove a Crosstrek and an Outback about 2 years ago when I was in the market. I liked the Outback waaay better. At the time (I think they've been updated) the Crosstrek's "technology" was about 5 years outdated: no display, no bluetooth, etc. As I said, I think they were scheduled to be updated for the '16 model but at the time going from the Outback to the Crosstrek felt like going from a nice car to a PoS.
