Just wondering if anybody heard of scams under the guise of a military reunion?
Got a typed letter in mail asking if my dad was the same sailor named in the letter. Dad served in military around time the letter indicated but dad was Army not Navy. Would like to help a fella out and give him FYI that he has wrong Mr. AlumsDad.
Also would like to not have my phone or email hammered with more spam than they already are, or worse yet have phishing scam?
For authenticity the old fella has an aol email.
which is a nice touch if a scam.

Sounds like a scam.
There is usually an official address associated with clubs that do reunions. If the guy left a unit, I would suggest Googling it and finding a number for a club (unit history club, local VFW, etc.) associated with it and giving them a call.
Thanks for your fathers service.

The boat checks out. USS Valcour AVP55. It was a real boat. But no club is listed.

NavSource Online
Go to the very bottom and center of the page.
There look to be links to a crew contact and reunion page.
I'm not sure if this help or not TBH.
I will ask around tomorrow, though.

LSU alum,
I asked around today about this.
I know you said your dad was Army so you might not care but that weblink I gave you is your best bet.
Navy Memorial
This might help. Either way, good luck.
