Also from having a history of having injured it and reading alot of info since then stay away from overhead presses, upright rows and bench press with bar or smith machine.

I had shoulder surgery 8 years ago and I still bench press and overhead press on a weekly basis with no problems. Cold plunge and hot tub works wonders.
I agree with refraining from the smith machine bench press because it prevents you from you using a natural range of motion. Overhead press behind the head should be avoided too.

I just know they hurt me before and I feel like dumbells give me a good workout and as you said range of motion is good with them. I do some light overhead presses with dumbells during warmup but that is it for now. Good that it doesnt bother you guess we are all built different and as I am hitting my 40's I dont want to risk it when I can do other things. I have had the impingement and rotator surgery done twice on same shoulder.

I had the surgery last year on my right shoulder...along with bone spur removal.
3 incisions; front back and outer shoulder.

Does this sling brace have to stay on 24/7 for 6-8 weeks?.

No, I wore mine 24/7 for approx. 2 weeks except for showering. Then started PT.

Will I really have to sleep in a chair?

Yes, I slept in a recliner for about 2 weeks. It was the only way to be comfortable.

I've never fapped with my left hand. Not sure I can.

You will learn.

I left surgery with a nerve stent in my neck/shoulder area. It was inserted just prior to surgery.

It delivers a nerve block that you control with a dial. This lasted for about 8 days and provided superb pain control. I hardly used the pain pills they prescribed.

When the nerve block was used up I pulled out the stent (about two inches long), no big deal.

PT was about 6 weeks, followed up with home PT with rubber bands.

Total recovery time 4-5 months to get to 100%.

It's different for everyone, my oldest boy had his labrum and rotator cuff repaired on his right shoulder. He wore the sling for 8 weeks, and didn't sleep in the chair. He also wanted no pain meds after the pain ball was empty.

Avoiding surgery

After the decompression on the left, my right began going downhill. I got a few injections, then got my ortho to send me to PT. my PT is this short coonass from Rayne, who told me he could avoid surgery in 75% of shoulder cases. So he taught me some exercises, and sure enough, as long as I keep doing them, shoulder problems are limited. You basically have to strengthen the muscles than hold the shoulder in the socket/joint.

over it for a couple of weeks and wiping was about impossible. Baby wipes will be your best friend.

When I did my carpel tunnel release on my right hand, I learned how my dog wiped his arse out in the front yard. Shower your arse good with a hand shower, then put a big towel on the side of the tub and start dragging arse. It works. I did the laundry on those towels myself out of consideration for the wife.

Most of what the other have said is true. Its a bitch or a surgery. No matter what anyone tells you, heed my advice and absolutely get the nerve block.
