Any wood industry baws have a hookup on LVL? Lost our big supplier in Finland.

Many Southern plants aren’t taking new customers. Apparently nobody is building plants and everybody needs. Having to actually go to Menards (KY) and Oregon to find. Maybe buy $30-$40k month. Rather get wholesale.

Good luck. Might get better by the end of the year. Don’t count on it though

Most are only selling to current partners. If you were working with Metsa and they can't fill your orders anymore you might have some trouble on your hands and will need to get creative. Pacific Woodtech or Murphy out of Oregon may be your best bets because I don't believe Boise, Roseburg or any of the big players are taking any new customers because they can't meet demand as it is. If you have an in house designer to calc beams for you consider converting to LSL or glulam for the short term. The 1.55 LSL is not as strong as 1.9 or better LVL, but it can often work using a 3-ply versus 2-ply LVL without much cost difference. Anthony Forest or Boozer among other glulam suppliers make I-joist compatible products with no camber that will work fine in the same applications. Anthony's PRG product comes in 3-1/2" and 5-1/2" x 9-1/2", 11-7/8" on up to 18" in a 1.9 almost equivalent to LVL and less per foot (no 1-3/4"). I used them when I was in Louisiana and people loved them, but I know GA. is LVL country and can be a difficult sell. Good luck!

Thanks difficult to get the big commercial folks to budge once they are happy. Hell we moved them off Ibeams in the first place. Just got too dependent on foreign supply then shipping costs and Euro got us.

We have 12-15 designers and trying to get them to be more creative.

Any experience with Redlam in Boise?

We get some small shipments from various folks here and there but becoming an issue. Just had to pay retail for a few trailers.

Still surprised none of the big boys have started new Southern plants. Guess they like the price to stay high.

Not their LVL product. I used Boise at the time, but I did use their Redbuilt metal web truss for some jobs which is a perfectly fine product. Our problem with them (10+ years ago), was one of our clients back doored us and went straight to them and the sold to my client direct and tried to cover it up. Never even considered them since.

I am picking up you are mostly commercial construction? This does tend to have you working with engineer stamped structural plans mostly that I know are difficult to swap out already specified products. But if you are ahead of design, give the LSL some thought, possibly LP. There is greater availability of the LSL versus LVL. It comes in all the same sizes up to 24" deep in a standard 1.55E and also a 1.75E, but I believe the 1.75 may have special ordering requirements. Your designers would know that common practice for beam designs 16" and deeper require a minimum 3-1/2" width for lateral stability. The LSL will often be structurally fine as an even swap for 3-1/2" and wider LVL beams trimming cost out of your project bids if you are commonly working in deeper floor systems. If none of that works for you, you may just be stuck with distributor warehouse pricing for awhile...if you can even get that.

Where are you located and can you provide trucking to North Ms to get them? I’m putting together a rail car of them now.
