I'm trying to find the best portable radio to pickup BBC news in more austere parts of the world, and anywhere else I travel.

Wi-fi is not available where I'm at, so I need to go old school.

I lived in the Amazon Jungle for a few years and had a portable Sony - I loved listening to Voice of America every morning and evening. Just make sure you get a good case to keep it dry and protected.

Sangean 909 is really nice and not too expensive. I use mine quite a bit.

You may want to check the CCrane website because they carry a lot of SW radios from different mfgs. Most of the CCrane brand radios are made by Sangean so maybe you can find a better deal on the CCrane branded version of the 909.
