Now a mechanic is telling him that the engine is losing power

Probably leaked out all the power due to a bad power gasket.

Don't put anymore $$ in a 7 yr old car.

Which is a shame. Car from 2013 should still be running fine with no issues

No idea why people keep buying damn American car. Buy Japanese.

With normal maintenance an American car is just as reliable as any Japanese auto. My Sister purchase a Honda Odyssey a few years ago and it's a hunk of crap. Honda replaced the transmission under warranty and it's going out again.

Her daughter is driving my wife's '04 Trailbazer. It's got 350K miles and is as dependable as gravity. Granted, I changed some parts out as part of maintaining my vehicle but nothing incredible. I did a compression check on it at 225K miles and it had lost nothing from the factory ratings. I run mobile one so maybe that has something to do with it.

I did have a similar issue with my wife's Trailblazer. It was caused by the bad gas that Exxon sold a few years ago. The ethanol content was super high and it was flashing all the "light ends" out of the oil that was lubricating the valves. It caused them to stick and remain open. I ran some "Sea Foam" through the intake and it fixed it.

Not saying that's your problem but you never know.

Probably clogged exhaust converter. Unbolt exhaust and drive. If it doesn’t lose power, that’s the problem. If it continues, look elsewhere.
