"In dog beers I've only had one" is a saying found all over. Shirts, bottle openers, posters, etc. Here's a link to what Google pulls up when the saying is searched for LINK.
I understand what it is trying to imply, but the saying doesn't make mathematical sense.
The representation they are going for is 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years.
But, write that a different way, 7 dog years is equal to one human year. Then you will see that 1 dog year is 1/7 of a human year.
What this means is 1 dog beer is equal to 1/7 of a human beer. So like 1.7 oz in a 12 oz beer, or 2.28 oz in a 16 oz pint.
Let's rewrite this saying to make more sense..

You're mixing up the bases.
A calendar year is a calendar year. To adjust for the development/life cycle of a dog, you take his age and multiply by 7 to get a human equivalent.
A beer is a beer. To adjust for the development/life cycle of a dog, you take his beers and multiply by 7 to get a human equivalent.

I will adjust the year to reflect that of a dog, so I'll multiply the dog's age by 7 to get dog years.
A human beer is a beer, like 12 or 16 oz depending on what you're drinking out of.
I will adjust the beer to reflect that many ounces of a dog beer, so I'll multiply the HUMAN BEER ounces to get seven times the ounces of what I drank.
But, wait...I only had ONE DOG BEER.

A one year old dog is similar to a 7 year old child.
A 14 year old child is equivalent to a 2 year old dog.

You guys have it backwards. That makes no sense. A 7 year old dog is equivalent to a 49 year old human.
1 dog year = 7 human years, or whatever the actual conversion is.

If you were out drinking and claimed that you were only drinking dog-beers then wanted to state the equivalent amount in human beers you’d only state 1/7th of what you had consumed.
It’s like claiming that calories don’t count while on vacation or for birthday cake. Your claiming, as the tee shirt implies, that all your beers have been dog-beers.

I gave my dog 3 beers the other night. He stumbled around, tried to hump the cat, threw up, then fell asleep on the bathroom floor. 3 x 7 = 21 sounds about right.
