The Real Kenny Powers
Listened to a podcast over weekend which discussed Canadian stunt man, Ken Carter, and his understudy, Kenny Powers. Carter planned for years to jump the St. Lawrence River in a rocket powered Lincoln Continental. Kept delaying and giving excuses. One day, Powers suddenly appears and says he'll do it. Undercuts his mentor, hops in the Lincoln and takes off. Of course it was a spectacular failure.
Host of podcast eventually contacts the producer of Eastbound and Down and asks if Kenny Powers was the inspiration. He doesn't respond.

While not based on the life of former Major League Baseball relief pitcher John Rocker, the show's creators do cite Rocker's attitude as an inspiration. Former major league pitcher Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams has often been cited as the inspiration for the Powers character.
Man, that was difficult
