This. And in smaller towns, there are still a lot of mom and pop full service restaurants come very close in price while destroying McDonald's in quality.
McDonald's generally charges the same for a Big Mac in small towns as it does in larger cities. And smaller towns feature lower real estate prices, lower labor costs, etc. So smaller, indy alternatives have an even better shot at competing especially now that McDonald's has hiked their prices.

Yeah, fast food used to be cheap which was most of the appeal. I know they all have 4 for 4 deals etc, but if you want something off the regular menu, you might as well go to a real restaurant rather than pay $13 for Taco Bell or Wendy's.
Went to Taco Bell recently for the first time in a couple years (there isn't one in my hood anymore), and was a bit surprised.
Spent what I would for a combo dinner at a nice and clean sitdown Mexican restaurant.
