If I worked for a company that had an office downtown in a big city, that would suck.
I imagine these people save quite a bit of time every day not having to spend hours in traffic.
Other companies based in smaller towns can benefit from a larger, remote talent pool.
Other than that, I liked working in an office. Hybrid is worse than fully remote or in-office. You never know who is where, and you're constantly having to re-adjust to your work environment. Just pick one or the other.
WFH should be offered as a perk for tenured employees, but it should not, in all cases, be considered the norm.

WFH makes more sense for smaller (not small) companies. It is an enticement for potential employees, especially if your company cannot compete with the wages paid by the big boys. It also means that you can save on office space.

This is a good point. I’m at a point in my life/career where I can productively WFH, so I do tend to take the self-focused perspective. It’s hard for me to imagine learning as much as I have if I had WFH in my 20s.

Had an irs employer that was obviously running a daycare while answering calls for the irs. All I gave her was my very common name and she pretended to look things up for 20 minutes. Then told me to call back in a week. I immediately called back and a guy answered my question in 5 minutes
