Anyone experienced it, I drank heavily for the last 9 months following my father's passing. I needed to slow down as it was starting to affect work and home life, and I was getting the itch if I haven't had a drink in 24 hours.

So far I'm on day 3 I'm miserable, anxiety through the roof, brain zaps, a little dizziness, no appetite, no mood to do anything except sit quietly in a dark room. I'm hoping its withdrawal otherwise I'm losing my damn mind.

Some positive stories would be nice to read as I will probably have another sleep depriving evening. Or just rabbit holes to go down would also be helpful

Anything help? TIA

Kinda late to go for a run, but tomorrow if you can, get some exercise to do something active

What kind of booze? 6 beers a night is way different than half a fifth of bourbon.

Maybe try weening off instead of just cold turkey?

12 to 15 beers per setting, sometimes more, at least 5 times a week. I couldn't drink just a couple, all of it had to be gone before I would quit.

Never had a problem with this in the past, was always able to control the consumption.

Alcohol withdrawal should be done under medical supervision to prevent seizures and possibly fatal outcomes. A medical professional would prescribe meds to prevent complications and taper you off of the meds.

You’ve already been through the worst of it. Push through another day or two and you’ll be in the clear.

ETA: serious alcohol withdrawal can be deadly without medical supervision/prescriptions, and I have no idea what constitutes “serious.” So maybe look into that.

But my (uninformed) hunch is that you’re fine and almost through it. Drink some sleepytime tea before bed and maybe take a day or two off and spend some time in nature if that’s available to you.

Go for a walk and listen to some music. Walk until you're exhausted. Add 20 additional minutes each day. Drink a lot of water.

Good luck.

Get a script of Xanax. It helps for this.

don't quit cold turkey. go to your primary and get a few low dose lorazepam to manage any withdrawing symptoms. also, a little melatonin will help you go to sleep.

your sympathetic nervous system is in overdrive realizing that it's not going to get it's nightly dose of depressant. it'll be hard to sleep without some help. don't torture yourself.

My buddy over in Beaumont told me that 7-11 now delivers beer. So if you live over there then problem solved

Lexapro

DON'T do Lexapro. you wanna experience the electric shock withdrawals that'll make you want to jump off the nearest bridge?@@?@?@?@?

go with low dose lorazepam or Xanax. these meds are pretty free and clear of side effects.

do NOT take any anti depressants, IMO

Was trying to avoid the benzo route, just felt like replacing one crutch with another.
