Sorry about your ayatollah friends. Sweet people over there that never did us any harm.

Why not get rid of them altogether?

It would have a bigger impact to eliminate ethanol in fuel altogether. Gas may not be cheaper but grain prices especially corn would plummet. Yes this would hurt farmers but if at the same time we create a crop insurance program for specialty crops and produce farmers could farm crops we actually eat, and if we addressed the monopolies and predatory practices of equipment, seed, and chemical companies we could lower farm inputs. This would make grains profitable at lower prices, cheaper grain means cheaper feed for cattle, poultry, swine, fish producers meaning higher profits and more farmers and ranchers entering the business. All of this would lower grocery prices of fresh meat and produce.

Energy Content (The "True" Cost): Because ethanol provides about 30% to 34% less energy per gallon than gasoline, consumers need to buy more ethanol to travel the same distance. When adjusting for this, ethanol is rarely cheaper than gasoline.
Yup. E85 is cheaper but I’ve done the math on the miles I can get on a tank of that vs E10 gas and it’s cheaper to use E10. Non ethanol gets even better mileage but a dollar extra a gallon isn’t worth it the few extra mpg
