Good timing that SFP created a thread of the JRE featuring an evolutionary biologist. His guest said that people like the guy in the video discount things like natural selection because they don't like to accept the facts of evolutionary biology so they substitute science with emotional arguments.

He's an idiot. There are alpha males all over the animal kingdom. He's just mad because he's confused an alpha with a peacock.

Exactly.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: this is the guy who says we shouldn't shower every day because the evil soap companies want to increase their profits. Sorry, not everyone likes smelling like arse.

Second, this same show claimed that Nintendo marketed their NES console to boys exclusively in the boy's section in toy stores. This is an absolute lie and they used a half-assed researched article in Polygon as the source. Nintendo marketed the NES as a store within a store called "World of Nintendo" near the electronics. The Japanese version of it, the Famicom, looked like a top loading game console like all the other game consoles out there. To avoid the issues that brought down the video game industry in the US during the early 80s, the NES was made to look like a VCR. It was sold as an entertainment device for the living room, not a toy.

My favorite was how they claimed you shouldn't drink so much water and the threat of dehydration wasn't real. Clearly, these people have never played sports or performed hard work in hot weather.

Current accepted science says "drink when you're thirsty". The electrolyte fad is just marketing.

There are also examples of homosexuality, gender fluidity, and alpha females all over the animal kingdom too. Are they all equally viable in the human context?

Sure why not? Humans are animals.

Because real men work hard, don't depend on the government teet and recognize what's made America great.

Media wants to push androgynous nu-male pussies who will allow themselves to be cucked out existence in a socialist world.

Some frogs in intense conditions can become hermaphrodites in order to carry on the species.

Well, that's not the same as gender fluidity in humans.

No. The myth is that you need to drink powerade or gatorade

No significant difference between 1800 mg of oral sodium supplementation and placebo in a 2-hour endurance run

High-dose sodium supplementation does not appear to impact thermoregulation, cardiovascular drift, or physical performance in trained, endurance athletes.

I know, as well as most people, that you don't need to drink sports drinks to replenish electrolytes (it can be ingested in various forms) but I'm not sure that study proves what that guy is trying to prove.

And the 'alpha males' thing doesn't really apply well in humans either. It's fun to talk about and it's a convenient label I suppose but it doesn't really pass muster. Too few real world examples and if it was human nature examples would be common. I suppose you could argue that the leaders of countries are alphas but.. that doesn't seem right to me at all

It's not a difficult example to find. There are simple evolutionary traits that the opposite sex are attracted to and that other males try to emulate in order to gain the sexual attraction of females. Just like other species of animals, these traits vary from culture to culture in different ways but the common threads are procreation, ability to provide for offspring, and passing on traits that will ensure successful offspring.
