Indeed. My younger brother was in the last graduating class. It was moved to the old girls school behind the Cathedral after the storm took it out.

I was in my second year coaching and teaching there. It sucked big time, but I got to teach in flipflops until winter.
Graduated from there in '96 btw.

Yea, I graduated in '03. I drove by the old school after the storm. It was unreal to see how wrecked it was.
That whole thing was tough on my brother. We lost our home, and my family had hardly packed because they were rushing back from a funeral in New Orleans. My poor brother maybe grabbed his Xbox and some clothes. I was fortunate to be in school at LSU at the time. It gave me a place to go back to after spending a week or so helping out immediately after the storm.

Those kids were tough and did their best to make a home out of the borrowed building (the classrooms were straight outta 1960). We were teaching for a month without any books and the kids definitely came together to make it all work. First lesson I remember teaching the first day back were the finer points of using a chalkboard, since that's all they had for us to use in the school and the kids hadn't ever seen them before.

That was a rough year for that little school. I was in the same class that most of the MC6 graduated from. It's hard to believe that that will be ten years as well in January.
