For some folks who may not know (because, frankly, the USMC's PR machine is impressively effective), the Army was involved in many famous PTO battles outside of the Philippines.

The 132nd, for example, was one of the very first Army units shipped out, in January 1942 to go to Australia. They served at Guadalcanal and Bougainville, before getting involved in retaking of the Philippines.
