This is just to replace the outside unit, its a very standard 3 ton unit.
You are not being very clear. Is it just labor or parts/labor.
$2500 for just labor is way too high. Not saying you find anyone cheaper, but that is a lot of money just for a few hours work.

labor and install?
That statement is a little misleading. What you apparently mean is just the labor to install it, no materials or equipment. That seems high.

2500 is highway robbery is right.
They are likely going to recover your existing freon which they will resell for several hundred dollars also.
The job consists of recovering your freon, pulling the fuses unwiring the unit (10 minutes), cutting the copper lines, carrying away existing unit.
Set new unit in place, connect new copper lines, pressure test, pull vacuum, add supplemental freon.
This can be done in less than 2 hours.
Are you going to pay someone 1200 dollars an hour that don't have MD behind their name?

Recently paid 12.5k for a 2 ton variable speed, high efficiency unit (inside and out, gas furnace, no ductwork). 12yr parts and labor.
I married it with a 4 ton replacement 3 yrs ago (same setup). That install was 10.5k
