People complain that the meanies drive the price
And it's a valid complaint, those "meanies" are profiting while contributing nothing. Like another poster said, they're not brilliant economists, they're simply assholes.
quote:
there is NOTHING that would prevent the price from rising short of artificially putting in a price ceiling (id checks, CC checks, etc.) to prevent the secondary market from fixing the initial pricing frick up
Ideally there would be. If she wants a cheap product she should be able to do that. If a person went and scooped up all the meals at a soup kitchen and sold them for the market value then they wouldn't be applauded as capitalists, they would be condemned as assholes.
People should be able to reward their fans with reasonable pricing. If the market gets in the way of that then it needs to be corrected.

If someone is willing to pay more than you, then the price is reasonable.

What do merchants that simply buy products from manufacturers such as cars, furniture, appliances, etc. and resale them to consumers contribute?

I'm drunk and we've been over that, go back to about page three or so. Sorry not trying to be dismissive but I don't have the sobriety for a good answer to a valid question.

not sure everything that's gone on in here, but my wife got 4 for Miami show and it's a credit card entry show down here with max of 4 per purchase. Think you're going to see more of this. I remember trying to get tickets to Jack Johnson in St. Aug a couple years ago and that fricker wouldn't even sell paper tickets because of their "environmental impact." At least he's walking the walk I suppose.

Scalpers or no, I really can't stand the fact that tickets aren't sold starting on Saturdays anymore.
Who the hell can really afford to stop work on a random Tuesday or Thursday at 10 am for a process that could take up to an hour (if it's a very popular ticket: obviously Adele, but has anyone tried to get Jimmy Buffett tickets before? Garth Brooks?)
I remember in the 80s going to the Centroplex or Assembly Center or Goudchaux's to stand in line for tickets on a Saturday morning. Or calling Ticketmaster to get tickets once I had a credit card (got 15th row for Prince once that way). But it was ALWAYS on a Saturday when you could get up and get ready and have your mind in the game, and not have to switch from TPS reports or shoveling shite or looming in a 4-gang switch box to trying to pull up Ticketmaster or some Artist oriented ticket buying app.
Another thing: I'm sure that all the best tickets are saved for connected people. I was once tenth in line for Van Halen tickets. TENTH. I was sure I was FINALLY going to get floor seats. Once the box office opened, It only took five minutes for me to get to the window. The 'best available" tickets were up the sides halfway back and halfway up. I bitched and moaned and the bitch said take em or leave em.
How the frick could they process 5000 tickets in 5 minutes in the 1980s?
