I've seen a repair to a split lead pipe. Inelegant. And the pipe? Non of the lead was touching the water, there was a presumable carbonate lining to it about an eighth of an inch thick.
, or the minimal, yet real risk of lead poisoning over long periods of time.

A water sample can have lead detected in it if you accidentally get dirt in the sample. Probably a good chance that could have happened seeing as it's a kid taking the sample, and as they said it's not scientific.
