Why own a damn pit? I have a pretty good idea why people want pits and for most people, it has nothing to do with wanting a great dog.

Stupid people have their stupid reasons. I've always wanted a grey pit and I'll own one when I have the time to dedicate to raising it right. And it will be a better dog than 99% of the dogs that people in this thread (and people like them) own.

Well, you didn't have any credibility before, and now you just seem like a tool.

Well, now we've come to a crossroads. We can buy a pit out of the paper or CL.com before dinner is served tonight.

The vast majority of the people that are buying pits are buying them because they are vicious dogs that are built to kill. Like or not, this subset of our population usually has a LOT of kids that aren't raised worth a shite.

So, now we have a recipe for a bit of a problem.

Now what?

I don't know. Awareness is our best bet, currently.

I have as much (but definitely more in real life) credibility than anyone in this thread.

I couldn't care less what your opinion of me is. Fact is, I am lucky enough to have worked with professionals who know how to raise damn good dogs. Anyone can, but perpetuating ignorance isn't a good start.

Yeah buddy. I have a few friends that are vets. None of them own pit-bulls. But thanks for your non-biased and unemotional points.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to pet a pit bull and it tore my finger up pretty bad. I should of known better. Pit Bulls are vicious by nature

I'm sure it's because they, as vets, are deathly afraid of them.... right?

I already provided those and was met with the equivalent of "nuh uh". You get what you give.

My niece married a tool that is a billy bad arse that got a pit and they had a baby. Everyone wanted them to get rid of the pit when they had the baby but they lectured everyone on how sweet it was and it was just a big baby.

Few weeks ago a dog came in the yard and the pit triggered and tore it to pieces, literally. Happened right in front of my niece while she was screaming for it to stop. She said it flipped out and wasn't her dog anymore.

Billy Bad arse came home and put one behind it's ear and buried it along with the several pieces of the dog it tore up.

Lesson learned and they were lucky.

I'll look back. I thought you just said "It's all about how you raise them." Which, unlike the fact that they account for more fatalities than all other breeds combined, cannot be quantified or proven.

The common denominator in all of these stories are always two things:
(1) an undertrained dog
(2) a bad owner

As I said before, Billy Bad arse and people like him shouldn't own these dogs.

Statistics are nice and all, but the ol' adage "correlation, not causation" comes to mind. Theoretically, you could test this hypothesis... it would just take a lot of resources and time. I think the better evidence is in the history of dog breeding and the fact that they were selectively bred for over 10,000 years to essentially work with and live along side humans.

When a Pit decides he/she is Alpha....... You are in trouble.

I've always shown my dogs who is Alpha in the home. Never owned a pit though.

Many dogs that attack are not spayed, neutered or properly socialized.

It's still in their blood. Regardless how they are raised. Don't you think there is a reason why these are bread to fight..

It only takes one bad time to snap and that can be fatal.. Once the smell blood after being upset (who knows what could set them off) they don't stop.. To me, that's not worth the risk, especially around children.

I know their people will defend them for being so misunderstood and sooo sweet.. but regardless they are so lethal.. Only takes one time..
