My understanding is the shooter had set a target 20' up in the air and was trying to shoot 3/4 mile with a 6.5 creedmore. Missed and the bullet hit the kid on the levee

I’m not used to shooting at that range but I imagine you need a massive safe area to miss in to safely shoot at 3/4 mile. Moving your barrel even an inch or two could cause a huge field of spray at that range with that caliber.

Bull shite.
im not gonna go there, but I would like to know what’s the mathematical odds of stuff like this this happening.
It’s hard enough to hit a bulls eye on a stationary target at the range.

Talk about being in the exact wrong place at an instantaneous second of time.

ETA Guess it depends what you’re shooting, I’m thinking something without a spread

Got rained down on while duck hunting once.

Unlike the article in the OP, it was probably ppl shooting skyward at ducks and the pellets “rained down” on you. Those pellets won’t even break the skin unless someone’s firing horizontally and at close enough range to you. But then you would have seen them.

Why were they taken into custody if they were legally shooting ducks in the air? I'm not much of a hunter but wouldn't you shoot ducks with a shotgun versus a rifle?

Yes you would use a shotgun. You should reread the thread. The person I responded to stated that they were once “rained down on” while duck hunting. It has nothing to do with the 13 year old that was killed in the OP’s article.
