There is a societal pressure not to show emotions. Healthy Indicuduals may just be even keel. Toxic individual would likely bury them all. That’s the point of Toxic masculinity.
You're incorrect. There's societal pressure to not be emotional as emotional people tend to make horrible decisions. Healthy individuals can have emotion and show emotion without becoming emotional. Which person would you say is of a greater potential harm to themselves and others around them? Highly emotional people or non-emotional people?
quote:
You asked what toxic masculinity was. I gave examples.
Not telling your family that you love them isn't toxic masculinity. It's you being an a-hole.
quote:
When it starts to break down your relationships with this around you.
Sure, but I'm not sure that not really showing emotion is toxic masculinity nor do I think it breaks down relationships.
quote:
If you didn’t know an excessively stoic older male relative who gave their grandchildren handshakes as children than good for you. My grandfather was the stereotypical stoic male and it effected all of his family relationships. He wasn’t a bad man, just couldn’t form bonds because he was so closed off.
Again, I'm not sure you really understand stoicism. And you know, some people just aren't wired to show affection like that. It certainly wasn't the norm back in those days for men to be emotional people. Frankly, what you described isn't stoicism, it's somebody being unable to show affection to ones that he loved.
And you have to consider the times in which a lot of those grandparents grew up, the things they saw, how they were raised, etc. It was just different back then.
