Check your Tenn. highlights and see how many busted coverages, missed tackles and poor decisions by db's led to his big plays. I can recall at least 2 plays in one game and at least 2 more when simple 5 and outs with missed tackles led to 60 or 70 yard td's.

I'm sure the Saint's FO watched a good deal of his highlights from college and apparently liked what they saw. I doubt they said, "he can run fast. We wanna go fast, let's pick em." We don't need him to be pro bowl receive, Colston provides us with that. All we need him to do is to stretch the field and to not allow teams to only cover the side of the field that Colston is on. Hopefully he turns it around this year.

Hey Bush, I don't remember the specifics about Palmer's first year but how many qb's are expected to contribute their first year. Take for example Jamarcus or Brady Quinn. Every first round pick except MAYBE qb's are EXPECTED to contribute their first year.True it does take a lot of players 3 to 4 years to really develop or reach their true potential but back to Meachem, he was the ONLY first round pick last year to see NO playing time. I restate my opinion, I am not high on Meachem never was but for the Saints sake I hope he has a great season.

Yeah, QB's on average do take longer to make the transition, but it's the point that one year is simply not enough to label someone a bust, regardless of their position. There have been plenty of one-and-done players and plenty that took a little longer to develop. I obviously agree with you and hope that he does have a great season.

No matter what he does this year he was a first round pick that sat on the bench, that's a fact.
And?

Which is why I constantly wonder why they get 30mil guaranteed before playing a snap.

Anyone hear of Michael Clayton...80-catches, 1,193-yards in his rookie season...zilch since. I'll take no playing time one season for average play for th next 5 or 6 instead of what MC did.

OK OK Meachem is great you're right.

I hope he does well but he was just another UT pussy last year though. Don't give me your list of people that didn't play their first year. He's a Saint WR, Colston proved you can and should contribute your first year at WR. Do you think we really drafted him thinking we should red shirt him, NO

I didn't give you that list. I gave you one guy who played great his rookie season and did nothing after that. I'm new here, so I guess I need to be more clear.

Sorry EB not aimed at you. You're right about Clayton but he'll be back.

Colston proved you can, not that you should contribute your first season. If this were the case, 7th rounders would be coming in and dominating every year at their positions which we know is not the case. I am not saying that Meachem won't be a bust, just that we should give him a chance before labeling him as such.

Wayne, when we drafted the guy would you say we were counting on him to play last year and contribute or not.

I'll save the bust label for later and hope I don't get to use it.

I agree, Jaydeaux, that we were all expecting him to contribute at least some. However, the Saints went with, supposedly, the best player available. Now, we all know that wasn't the case because hindsight is 20/20, but they were expected to be set at WR and this wasn't a need pick. Again, I agree with you, but that may put a different spin on the situation.

I certainly didn't expect him not to play at all, but I don't think that is an all bad situation. Yes he did miss out on valuable game experience, but he also was made to look like a bust and that he had no business being drafted in any round. Hopefully, and I stress hopefully, he will develop a huge chip on his shoulder and continuously work harder than any WR out there and eventually be a great #2 receiver for the future. Meachem has all the tools to develop into a great offensive weapon, and I hope he doesn't take anything forgranted in the future and prove the FO not to be idiots for selecting him.
