Anyone know what we are looking like here for next year? That’s a lot of $$ we can use to improve from where we are even now.

Hell imagine if we had Fairley in the DT rotation right now ....

I think at this point...we have to assume that he won't be playing for us again. Hopefully he does though, b/c he's our best interior pass rusher. Bonethug posted about this a few weeks ago, & I think he insinuated something to the extent of both parties probably reaching some kind of settlement.

Good news is that all 3 of our DT's have gotten better from last year. Davison has become VERY legit against the run in his 3rd year, Rankins is eating up blockers/getting pressure on occasion(although I'd like to see some sacks), & Onyemata has actually been very good for the last few weeks. Our 3-man DT rotation isn't just getting the job done...they've actually been really good.

If Fairley doesn't play in 2018...I'm assuming that we add another DT in the offseason. If we're still getting good production from the DT position at the end of the year...I'd say we probably use a mid round pick (3rd-5th round) to acquire one. If the good play doesn't continue, then we might have to invest more. Hendrickson & Okafor rush the passer from the DT position sometimes, which helps out. You also have that guy, Loewen (IR), who looked good in the preseason.

Yeah I don’t think he’s ever playing again, sadly... just curious how his contract affects us moving forward. that money would be huge to add a legit #2 WR or improving at LB. Or paying Vaccaro

It's a shitty situation & hopefully Fairley lives a good life, but I assume that our FO will do everything they can to get him off the books as soon as possible if his condition doesn't improve. At the end of the day...it's a business.

Yep. We need to be smart with our available cap space. The 3 most important guys we need to try & retain are Brees, Vaccaro, & Okafor. Kelemete as well if we have enough money left. All our other free agents are either RFA's (Snead, Coleman, & Breaux) or league minimum contracts. We also have to decide if we're going to cut Strief or try & convince him to take a paycut to be Ramczyk's backup(he could also decide to retire). I'm sure the FO will have a discussion about Fleener's contract as well in the offseason.

Ideally, you'd like to get at least 2 starters from every draft with your 1st & 2nd round picks at minimum. Due to not having a 2nd rounder...we're going to have to target a few positions( WR, OG/OC, DT, & LB...maybe even TE if we're sure about a guy) in the 3rd round to find that 2nd starter. There are always legit rookie starters in the 3rd round at certain positions. Hopefully the FO chooses wisely. Kind of a weak WR draft, but hopefully they can find a WR in the 3rd round (good value & CSP has been very successful at drafting WR's).

I think we can put the we have to retain Drew narrative to rest. He's not uprooting his family for a worse team at 40 years old, something will get done.

Nope Fairley will never play another down of football for the saints.
It was a Con the whole time.
If there is a clause in the contract saints will get back some of that money.

Yeah, guy and doctors fake a life threatening heart injury just to frick the Saints. He’s secretly an Atlanta fan who’s been planning this for almost a decade.

That son of a bitch...

That is some next level diabolical stuff right there. I guess the doctors were falcon fans too? I didn’t realize they had that many fans.

It's still trying to be settled. My guess is he will pay back the base salary this year, not receive any further bas salary guaranteed or not, but still get a portion of the signing bonus.

So the biggest thing that's going to be argued right now is how much of that signing bonus he gets to keep. He'll likely get one year's worth minimum, so the haggle will be how much more he should get.

No he won't. Go look at the last dozen or so times this kind of stuff has happened.

He got that contract on the premise he would play. If he can't play he is going to lose the majority of the money.
