wouldn't be a bad off season discussion after the draft...

From what school have the Saints had the best draft picks from?

I'm basing it off like 10 years of results

I forgot we traded up for sed Ellis. When you trade up it should be for a difference maker IMO. Not just a solid starter. They've made the wrong choice when trading up nearly every time. That tells me its the front office and coaches making bad decisions when they trade up.

The only player I truly DO NOT want us to draft at 15 is Mingo.

quote:

he's a project, no technique and lightweight

Ezekiel Ansah BYU 6-5 271
Barkevious Mingo LSU 6-4 241
Dion Jordan Oregon 6-6 248
DeMarcus Ware Troy 6-4 251
Terrell Suggs ASU 6-4 257
Aldon Smith Mizzou 6-4 263
Cliff Avril Purdue 6-3 252
Michael Johnson GT 6-7 266
Kamerion Wimbley FSU 6-4 248
Bruce Irvin 6-3 245

He has speed, and that can't be coached. He's projected as a top pick as an OLB for a reason. There haven't been many can't miss bona fide pass rusher. Most guys have question marks and go a little further down.

Bruce Irvin 15th pick
J.J. Watt 11th pick
Demarcus Ware 11th pick
Elvis Dumervil 126th pick (passed on because of size)
Aldon Smith 7th pick
Dwight Freeny 11th pick
Clay Matthews 26th pick
John Abraham 13th pick

As for technique, he's been a DE in a 4-3 and has mainly used his speed. A lot of other guys did that in college too. Leonard Little, Julius Peppers and Dwight Freeny. Mingo has a rip. Freeny had his spin. Peppers jumped a lot. Little was pure speed. They all did well in the NFL.

As for production, he did just as well as the other guys people want.

Dion Jordan
24 starts (as best I can tell)
121 tackles
29 tackles for loss
14.5 sacks
4 forced fumbles

Demontre Moore
23 starts
197 tackles
26.5 sacks
1 interception
8 forced fumbles

Barkevious Mingo
15 game starter
119 tackles
29.0 tackles for loss
15 sacks
4 forced fumbles

Bjoern Werner
27 game starter
99 tackles
35 tackles for loss
35 sacks
3 forced fumbles
1 interception

Ezekiel Ansah
9 game starter
72 tackles
13 tackles for loss
4.5 sacks
1 interception
1 forced fumble

Well I guess we hit 100% from Hofstra and la tech

Looking at that I just think no wonder we sucked for so long. We drafted some pretty crappy players

I don't get the Mingo hate.
"he gets washed out playing against the run" they say.
Hell yeah he did. Put a safety at LB and he will have trouble vs the run too.
Mingo was asked to play end at a OLB size and weight.
Gonna be a lot of egg on face when this is all played out for one side or the other
I have confidence that the Saints staff has watched more tape and have Mingo slotted correctly.

They have the Saints drafting Vacarro

yeah, I wouldn't like that pick at #15. The safety class seems kind of deep this year. So if we did actually take one, hopefully it would be later on.
