I'll reserve judgment until I see a few games this season....

Actually, I don't know alot about Cush or Matthews, but if they do pick one of them, I will be on the bandwagon.

a good stat might be that this dude is supposed to be this great pass rusher but has like 5 career sacks in a shitty conference that passes every down

after reading that link and seeing his picture...I'm pretty sure Clay Matthews took his fair share of steroids.

naw, 166lbs to 246 lbs is normal. Cushing and Mays would never touch that stuff either. All natural for sure.

Nobody said he's "this great pass rusher" first of all. He barely started what... 10 games or so and played on a stacked talent team. He mostly played special teams throughout his career until this last year where he had a couple injury problems as well.

Also on a side note... he comes from a NFL pedigree family with his uncle and dad played in the NFL for a long time. I think his uncle is in the hall of fame.

As long as we draft a defensive player, I'll be happy.

if we trade down and pick him I'd be ok with it - at pick 14 I would be upset.

I think we don't need anymore USCers on the Saints

Don't get too caught up with "draft values"... they are all values based on mock drafters in the scheme of it all which means very little to NFL gm's. This is a very "Patriot like" pickup... good enough for them, good enough for me.

you did say though

that hybrid LB who can rush the passer and everyone knows we need more pass rushing ability on the defensive side of the ball

I dont see how 4.5 sacks playing defensive end most of the time in a shitty, pass happy conference is the least bit impressive. I guess it was just a race to the QB with all their stacked talent so they probably stole 15 sacks from him.

His pedigree is the only thing i like about him, his dad and uncle were both beasts for like 20 years. I've said before I'd be ok if we move down and get him in the 2nd or something but at 14 I'd break my TV screen.

We'll get Matthews this year and Mayes next year. That's what, 3 years in a row...

I said he can... which he can. Can you link me where you getting the stats from? I'm having a hard time finding a good source.

from a value standpoint though I would rather trade down and pick up a 2nd or 3rd round pick and then select Matthews. Why pick him at 14 if you think he will last until 25 or so? Unless you think he will be gone sooner that he is being projected.

What if his stock continues to rise as it has been and by the time draft day comes... it'd be doubtful he's there.

It's silly to get too caught up with "Well he's a bad pick at 14 but a good pick at 22".... If the team is high on the player, they shouldn't hesitate to just draft the fricker. This trading down ordeal is not always very likely.

pro football weekly draft magazine.

1 sack in 06, 0 in 07, 4.5 in 08.

saying that value in draft slots is only something mock draft makers talk about is not very coherent. Jimmy Johnson built a dynasty on it. Picking him at 14 is like giving McDonalds $30 for a cheeseburger just because you like their burgers so much.

Everyone said Tracy Porter was a bad value pick too. Save me that shite. Saints have shown they aren't afraid to draft the player they want and it all goes back to their board and they could have Matthews very high on their board to justify this selection. Their board is the only thing that matters.

If their board has him high on it, it would explain our current defensive situation.

unless they leave picks on the table by sticking by their board. You are too confused to understand that. Why would you pick someone at 14 that you know would still be there at say 25 if you can move to 24 and get a 3rd rounder? Did you pick up the fat bitches in Mandeville at 10pm or wait until all the fine bitches left at 2am?
