Giants released TE Michael Matthews.
This is a bit of a surprise as Matthews was widely expected to be the Giants' No. 2 tight end behind Kevin Boss. Darcy Johnson now looks like he'll fill that role. Matthews' agent said he has already gotten calls from other teams.

"Yeah Mickey, he would like to get back down south"

Dustin Keller and Ben Hartsock are the only true tight ends, with James Dearth serving primarily as long snapper, on the 53-man roster. That might make the Jets a landing spot for a tight end who loses his job with one of the other 31 teams.

Looks like the jets will be competition from the waver wire.
