Upgrade the OLB position. A young fast LB to replace Shanle would rock.

Shanle has been outplaying Fujita the this and last season but i understand its the cliche gay thing to say to replace shanle.

It has to be an all defensive draft again this year unless a stud RT is there.

1. DT (unless RT is there)
2. LB
3. DE or DT

is what i think should be done with our first three picks will be tought picking from 32, but oh well

I was thinking almost the same exact same things last night, except I would swap 1 and 2 on your list.

That said, I'm not sure what the relative strengths of the draft are by position next year.

edt: the NFL site is indicating this is a strong year for OLB's which is perfect for the Saints. I like Weatherspoon or Eric Norwood, though Weatherspoon has a little faster 40 time (4.59 vs. 4.67). But every time I've ever watched SC play, Norwood makes big plays.

It says this about Norwood though: "plays hard every play and is a good character person."

SP will be salivating.

I'm thinking OLB first round, Norwood or Rolando McClain (sp?) to be exact. From there, OL or BPA. I am finally 'sold' on PT & Bell at RB, but wouldn't mind a later round pick up like Scott.

I would love that.

Wouldn't hurt to get some more safety talent as well. Sharper (unfortunately) can't play forever.

Absolutely..I'm leaning to OLine depth for the first pick

But when picking late in the draft, it's all about who's there and will most likely come down to BPA thats not a skill player on offense

I don't know what position/s that'll be focused on in the early rounds. I do know it won't be WR, RB, or QB. Other than that, anything could happen.

Safety - Sharper isn't gonna play forever. Get him an apprentice ASAP.

He has done wonders for Roman Harper's play.

With the 32nd pick, I think weatherspoon would be a good pick up. As for getting Sharper an understudy, I remember a good bit of talk about Jenkins being a better FS than a CB. I don't know if that's the direction they'll go in with him but with porter and greer playing well, it's hard to keep him as a nickle or dime back at the moment

I am pissed that the NFL has seemingly abandoned the idea of rotating the draft from city to city.

Also - why does Miami get this year's Pro Bowl but New Orleans doesn't get the 2013 Pro Bowl?

Assuming the Saints do not address any of those positions in free agency, then I agree with you.
The top priority needs to be DT and/or OLB, with DE close behind. Will be interesting to see how well OLB Stanley Arnoux and S Chip Vaughn come back from their injuries and figure into the Saints' plans.

Also, the Saints need to pick an offensive tackle somewhere in the draft. Other considerations include a big running back, a backup QB and a CB if Malcolm Jenkins is eventually moved to safety.

You don't select a player for depth with a #1. You looke for someone to come in and start.

False..In most situations yes, but when you need depth you take it if you don't have a glaring need

You honestly think they took Jenkins last year and intended on him to start from Day 1? Absolutely not..they wanted depth in the secondary and will work him into the starting rotation sometime in the next couple years.

I think we need depth at LB and OL. A back up tight end late as well to develop.

wasn't his deal relatively cheap for a starting tackle? and i think anytime a stud offensive lineman falls to you, you have to pick him (unless you have 5 studs already)

i also really wouldn't mind a center. goodwin has just never done it for me. maybe i am wrong. saints run game is clicking and brees still isn't getting sacked a lot, so it's hard to complain

of course, this is just speculation for fun. its pretty obvious the saints will address all their needs in free agency (like they normally do) and pick best players available (and most likely it will be on D)

also, i totally forgot about stanley arnoux and chip vaughn. it will be like getting two extra draft picks when we start the new season
