The tying run was on third and Buckner had zero chance of getting the batter at first base.
Best case is they get the next guy out and survive to extra innings.

People act like Shough couldn’t have struggled, gotten banged up or worse a serious injury, Moore not have struggled in his HC infancy, etc.
It’s worked out perfectly in a rebuilding year.
