I actually really like Tom Johnson as a rotational DE in this front. He played 5 tech in canada. Don't know that he'll fit as a nose man though.

I thought he was solid as a rotational guy last year, just by watching whenever i noticed him. I don't have access to PFF metrics or anything but I bet he graded out reasonably well all things considered.

Akeim Hicks is the big factor in all of this.

Yup, I agree with all of this. My thinking when making that pick was that the corner position was hurting far more than anywhere on the defensive line. Plus, I wanted to be realistic considering the team has shown actual interest in McFadden.

Hicks is gonna play End. Too athletic to play in the middle imo. He's like a Richard Seymour kind of player..very quick on his feet for a big man like that. Will probably make a good pass rusher.

I definitely think he's the other DE across from Cam Jordan. He's a big body and can play NT, but he's more of a pass rusher and his skill set leans him toward that 5-technique position. I expect him to take big strides going into next season.

I want zero part of Mingo in the first round. I'd love Klein though! That guy is a stuuuuud.

I can see this as a great draft, Zoom. Obviously the 1st pick will be the most debatable because everyone wants to get the BEST playmaker available, but I think Mingo plays much better in 3-4 than he did in 4-3. Great hustle and speed, his handwork will polish itself out.

good job, I like the small school throw in, Ya know the Saints will have one somewhere. There's often one mid round pick that isn't at a need spot from a player that drops and presents value that cannot be passed on. Those are virtually impossible to predict but it does happen frequently.

I do have the Saints pegged to take a TE from the 3rd to 5th Rd. It's a deep class. You can nab not just a Thomas replacement but an upgrade that could enable some dual TE attacks. It's sumpin I think mad scientist play designer Payton wants to see integrated.

I like your 3rd and 4th round picks. McFadden looked great at the combine. Klein is a workmanlike overachiever... The kind of guy the Cowboys have stumbled into the last few years.

It's highly possible that the team tries to find a replacement via the draft, but I really feel like they're going to try and get a veteran to fill the spot. I would have my eye on Ben Watson who is still a capable blocker and receiver. He's a player that would certainly open up two tight end looks.

Agree with the term capable. At capable you can have 2 tight end looks but he is no longer any sort of receiving "threat". Some of the mid round TEs have the youth and potential to not only man the position capably but provide serious matchup problems ala the Gronk-Hernandez kinda combo.

A vet TE addition and a draftee both could be in the mix.

Only thing is don't dislike about your draft is your first pick.

Well it's certainly not the last mock I'll put out before the draft. I'm always looking for input. What would you suggest? I'll admit that I don't have any popular guys in there besides Mingo.
